Dawson Wallace completed a significant expansion to McCain Foods’ existing potato processing plant in Chin, Alberta. The project’s highlight is the addition of two new production lines, one for French fries and another for additional frozen potato products, which will streamline the product sorting and storage process. This project was delivered without impact to McCain’s existing operations in the adjacent, fully operational, existing plant.
The 392,000 SF processing plant features various specialized areas, including 65,000 SF for raw receiving, 160,000 SF dedicated to processing, and 84,000 SF for packing and automated packaging (ATL). Additional spaces include 32,000 SF for process support, 41,000 SF of elevated decks, and 17,000 SF for office use. The plant also includes main and spec line equipment installation, with a 10,000 SF freezer at 40 feet tall.
