Dawson Wallace was awarded the contract for Valleyview Secondary School Expansion in Kamloops, B.C., following a competitive tender in June 2020. The project consists of the construction of a two-storey, 68,000 sq.ft. addition to the existing school, which will increase the school’s total size to 139,794 sq. ft. once completed.
Working together with CHPA, the newly expanded school will maximize available space and provide a more functional, purpose-driven environment, and will increase the school’s overall capacity from 675 to 1,200 students.
The interior will feature a spacious and inviting layout, including an abundance of natural light throughout. It will add 20 classrooms, a new gymnasium, multi-purpose areas and innovative education spaces including tech-ed, film studio, computer lab, electronica room, drafting room to the school.
It will also have dedicated wall space projectors, gender neutral private washrooms and change rooms, and learning and gathering areas both inside and outside the building. The surrounding school grounds will feature both soft scape and hard surfaces, including a new roadway to the school.
